Frederick D. Kagy (1917–1989) was recognized nationally and internationally as a craftsman, educator, and author. He began his career as an apprentice with R.R. Donnelley in Chicago before earning a B.S. from Northern Illinois Stete Teacher's College (1948), M.A. at Northern Colorado (1952), and doctorate from the University of Wyoming (1959).
Kagy joined Illinois State University in 1965 as the coordinator of the graphic arts program, and during his tenure taught hundreds of students in graphic arts and industrial education. Family, colleagues, and friends established this endowment as a tribute to his legacy and commitment to student professional development in graphic communications at ISU.
Given Kagy's passion for transitioning students into the "real world," the primary purpose of the endowment is to support students as they acquire and engage in graphic communications related internships and leadership opportunities beyond the classroom.
"Dr. Kagy was the consummate servant leader as a professor at ISU. He always thought first and foremost about the development of students. He prepared us to make a positive impact in the graphic arts industry."
